SECOND YEAR SETTLEMENT TOUR TO MOHADI (NASHIK)

The second -year settlement tour was planned to Mohadi (Dindori Dist.),Nashik. It was scheduled for two days – 8th March 2021 to 9th March 2021. Students documented the settlement of Mohadi, by understanding the local construction techniques and materials. They got to learn about socio- cultural life of the village and its reflection in the overall architectural planning along with the impact of local climatic conditions. Students were able to interact with the locals, understand their routine, the overall lifestyle and their needs. They were fortunate to document few of the old structures which stood the testimony of time.

The first-year architecture Rural settlement study was a pure Literature study. It was scheduled for 4 days. In the literature study, Students first analysed the settlement of various regions of India belonging to the different climatic zones like Leh Ladakh, Kutch, Villages from the North East part of India, Houses of Nagaland, Agraharas of South India, Kath Khuni Houses of Himachal Pradesh, Banglas of West Bengal, Havelis of Rajasthan, The Pol of Gujarat, Nalukettu of Kerala, Chawls of Mumbai, Wadas of Maharashtra and Chettinad Houses, based upon the Socio- cultural background, Lifestyle, local construction techniques and materials. How exactly the architectural planning got evolved from the culture, responding to the various climatic conditions, was crucial to understand.
