Electives Hands- on Workshop:  on Bamboo products and furniture

03rd April 2024 to 07th April 2024

The Department of Design organized a Hands-on Electives Workshop from 3rd April to 7th April 2024 for 3rd-year B.Des students, focusing on the use of bamboo as a sustainable design material. This intensive, skill-based workshop aimed to explore the potential of bamboo in product and furniture design, highlighting its eco-friendly properties, versatility, and aesthetic value. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of bamboo as a material—its natural properties, structural behavior, and sustainability benefits. The workshop included practical training on bamboo-specific toolscutting and shaping techniques, as well as assembly and joinery methods used in traditional and contemporary bamboo construction. Throughout the five days, students worked in teams to conceptualize and create functional products and small furniture pieces, applying their understanding of material behavior, ergonomics, and design detailing. The workshop emphasized learning by doing, encouraging innovation and hands-on problem-solving in a real-world context. By the end of the session, students gained a comprehensive understanding of bamboo’s design potential, making it a valuable material for sustainable design practices.

F.Y.B.Des Audit Course- Terracotta Workshop

09th December 2023 to 13th December 2023

Exploring Tradition Through Craft: Audit Course on Terracotta Art
An audit course on Terracotta Art was conducted for our F.Y.B.Des students. This course was designed to help students understand the historical and cultural significance of terracotta as a traditional craft. Students were introduced to the complete process of terracotta manufacturing, including mould making, shaping, and kiln baking. The course emphasized hands-on learning, giving students the opportunity to work directly with clay and explore traditional techniques of designing and finishing terracotta products. In addition to learning age-old methods, students were encouraged to explore modern applications by blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design ideas. Through the use of natural materials, students were inspired to express their creativity in both functional and decorative forms. This unique experience allowed students to gain a deeper appreciation for sustainable practices and the beauty of handcrafted art.
