Scrap Material Sculpture Mural

An audit course on scrap material sculpture mural was conducted online for first year B. Arch students. The course was conducted by Prof. Layawant Gawande, allied faculty of the institute. On day one, students were introduced to mural art, preparation for mural process, how to choose the right materials, their properties and how to use them in wall mural, pre-painting fundamentals ( Art Elements: Colour, Line, Shape, Texture, Space ), how to create a strong composition using the visual elements and principles of design though demonstrations and discussions. On day two colours used in mural paintings of design were discussed. Students worked on their own murals and presented the completed works at the end. The overall process made students to experience various materials and thoughtfully utilize them in art works. 


Create a painting in acrylic and oil paint medium.

An audit course on painting was conducted online for first year B. Arch students The course was conducted by Prof. Sankalp Bagul, allied faculty of the institute. During the course students were taken through a complete journey of painting process right from mounting a canvas, content selection, creating visually strong composition, creating colour palette upto finishing through demonstrations. They learnt basic painting techniques in acrylic and oil paint medium and also explored various color application techniques, blending and mixing techniques. The course helped students to further develop and refine their own painting techniques. It also made them understand about modern contemporary art for the purpose of artistic & aesthetic expression.  Other conceptual approaches, such as abstraction, modernism & major painting styles and movements in historical context were also touched upon. Students worked on their own paintings utilizing the knowledge and presented the completed works at the end.


Classical Dance

On day one, Ms. Deepa gave a brief introduction of classical, folk dances and Natyashastra. She also touched upon the Gandabandhan parampara, Abhinay Darpan book, types of Abhinyas, concept of Ardhanarinateshwar etc. With demonstration, she elaborated on various Mudras –  Ang-pratyanga –Upanga that included hasta mudras, neck, head and eye gestures and how they can inspire a designer to create three dimensional forms. She talked of Tandav-Lasya that is masculine and feminine balance and its application in any art form. The day was concluded with an interesting session on Rasa- Nishpatti demonstrating nine types of emotions and their relevance in design and space creation. Day two initiated with talk on classical dances of India like Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri, Mohiniatam, Satriya, Gothipuri, Kathakali, Chahu etc. and their aspects like Granth tradition, deties, costume, significance etc. Principles of basic design such as rhythm, balance, harmony, flow etc. were discussed with respect to kathak dance through demos. Students actively participated in the course and utilized remaining two days for assignments completion under monitoring of core faculty. Overall they gained a new perspective on how classical dance art form is closely related to design and can be taken as an inspiration to design innovative forms and meaningful spaces in architecture.


Creative Writing

The course was designed  to give a good insight in the field of Creative writing. The course was conducted by Shri. Deven Kapadnis, who is a creative writer and a film producer. He is the head of filmographers studio Nashik. Following is the content was  covered in the Course: What is creative writing – introduction to basics of writing, Know what you know about writing and admit you know nothing. I have an idea/story, Identifying content – germ, Art vs craft, Process of visualization – cross the socio-cultural limits, vice and virtue –how to organize the thought, The first sentence, The last word Based on the learnings, Students wrote their own short stories as an assignment and utilized remaining two days for assignments completion under monitoring of core faculty. Overall they gained insights for improved writing skills.
