Site visit to city centre mall

Third year B. Arch students were to visit City Centre Mall in Nashik to observe and understand various Air conditioning components as a part of subject Building Services. The maintenance persons explained students regarding working of a chilled water plant and related information such as capacity, output, efficiency etc. Students also observed the air distribution system along with the components like ducts, insulation, grills, diffusers etc. Space requirements for related services like plant room, Air handling unit, cooling tower etc. was also understood.

Site visit to steel structure constructions

A site visit to an ongoing steel construction site is organised to make students understand the various challenges related to the execution of steel structures. Different members and their assembly options like the base plate, anchor bolts, I-section, channel welding, column-beam junction, vertical sheet attachment, roofing details. The step by step execution process explained in lecture could be seen on site. Students raised many questions to site workers about execution to clarify their doubts. Typical concerns about wind flow management for lightweight structures could be seen practically. On-site modalities and local solutions of junction assembly, metal plates etc could be explored in depth.


Sundarnarayan Temple Site visit

21st 22nd and 28th 29th January 2019

Final year students were introduced to the subject of Heritage conservation through a 4 day workshop inclusive of site visits. Two major conservation projects – Sarkarwada and Sundarnarayan Mandir both dating back to Peshwa period were studied. Architect and archeologist Smita Kasar Patil who is working with ASI on Sundarnarayan project, conducted the workshop .She explained various approaches to conservation like preservation, restoration, reconstruction were introduced. Various methods of grading a heritage building were discussed. Students did a photographic documentation of various identified structures around the city.


Industrial Visit – Sandeep Plastics Industries

The Students of Product design and furniture design 2nd year were taken for an industrial visit at Sandeep Plastics Industries, which is suppliers of Automotive Parts & Components, Castor Wheels. They manufacture front Show Bumper, Front Grill etc. by using the method. It helped students to understand how the selection of forming mould is done, according to the appearance requirements of fibreglass parts. The manufacturing of the fibreglass body is produced with reference to master mould according to drawings or prototypes. And how they make fibreglass car moulds according to the production of the master mould. At last, the students observed the finishing process of the components. This also helped to understand the characteristics and limitations of FRP. Overall this visit helped in enhancing the knowledge apart from the theoretical learning.


Pandav Leni Site visit

21st  December 2018

Students of second year B.Arch were taken to Pandav Leni to understand and study cave architecture. Mr. Prashant Patil who is an ancient script scholar guided the students on site. He showed the students various cave carvings and explained their meaning and importance. Students also understood the meaning of timeless architecture. Students documented the study through photos and sketches.

 


Industrial Visit – Somesh Forge Pvt Ltd

Experiential learning is one of the best way students can learn. The students of second-year product design and furniture design were taken for industrial visit to Somesh forge Pvt Ltd in order to understand the metal forging process. The students were able to observe the manufacturing of single components which had to undergo through the different process such as Cutting and heating, moulding, hammering, separating, Normalizing, grinding, short blasting (for polishing of components), then crack detection and finally finishing of components. Also, they saw the process of mould making. This also helped to understand the characteristics and limitations of metal. Overall this visit helped in enhancing the knowledge apart from the theoretical learning.


Industrial Visit – Lotus Engineering Works

The Students of Product design and furniture design 2nd year were taken for an industrial visit at Lotus Engineering Works which is a manufacturer of automotive components like steering, sleeves, male yoke shafts, midship shafts etc, in order to understand the metal process. The students were able to observe different processes like cutting, turning, centring, lathe work, chamfering and Gear hobbing etc. This also helped to understand the characteristics and limitations of metal. Overall this visit helped in enhancing the knowledge apart from the theoretical learning.
